Lorenzen Wright found dead outside of Memphis

Lorenzen Wright found dead outside of Memphis - Ex-Sacramento King player Lorenzen Wright has been found dead beside a wooded area 15 miles outside of downtown Memphis. Wright’s mother reported the 34-year-old missing on July 22 and was last seen on July 18.

Herb Wright, the NBA veteran’s father, was notified by police of his son’s death on Wednesday afternoon, Curtis Wright, the player’s uncle, told the Associated Press.

Memphis’ ABC Channel 24 Eyewitness News reports that a 911 call was received at approximately 1 a.m. on July 19 from Wright’s cell phone. The dispatcher was able to hear to expletives followed by several gunshots. A source also told Eyewitness News that Wright’s body was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

Elmendorf AFB C-17 crashes in Alaska

An Air Force C-17 Globemaster III, assigned to the 3rd Wing, here crashed about 6:14 p.m. (Alaska time) July 28.

At the time of the accident, it was on a local training mission.

Four aircrew were on board, and their condition is unknown at this time. First responders are on scene.

A board of officers will investigate the accident, and more information will be released as it becomes available.

George Steinbrenner Dies at 80

George SteinbrennerGeorge Steinbrenner, whose thirst for winning gained him infamy as Yankees owner, died Tuesday, the team confirmed, after suffering a massive heart attack at his Tampa home. He was 80 years old.

"He was an incredible and charitable man. First and foremost, he was devoted to his entire family -- his beloved wife, Joan; his sisters, Susan Norpell and Judy Kamm, his children, Hank, Jennifer, Jessica and Hal; and all of his grandchildren," the Steinbrenner family said in a statement. "He was a visionary and a giant in the world of sports. He took a great but struggling franchise and turned it into a champion again."

Well, there you go. The Jazz have acquired Minnesota Timoberwolves forward Al Jefferson for the trade exception acquired from the Carlos Boozer sign and trade and the 2010 protected first-round pick from the Memphis Grizzlies that the Jazz acquired with the Ronnie Brewer trade, and another future first-rounder.
