Wednesday’s National Basketball Association Capsules

BOSTON (AP) —Paul Pierce(notes) scored 12 of his 28 points in overtime to reach 20,000 points in his career, added a key steal with 27 seconds left, and helped the Boston Celtics beat the Milwaukee Bucks 105-102 on Wednesday night.

Ray Allen(notes) had 23 points for the Celtics (4-1), Rajon Rondo(notes) had 17 points and 15 assists, and Kevin Garnett(notes) scored 13 and grabbed eight rebounds.

Andrew Bogut(notes) led the Bucks (1-4) with 21 points and 13 boards. Ersan Ilyasova(notes) and Carlos Delfino(notes) each scored 15 points and Brandon Jennings(notes) had 13.Lakers 112, Kings 100=

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Kobe Bryant(notes) had 30 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds to help Los Angeles win its fifth straight game to open the season.

Pau Gasol(notes) added 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Lamar Odom(notes) scored 18 for the Lakers, who have won seven straight against their Northern California rivals.

Bryant had his 17th career triple-double and first since Jan. 21, 2009, against the Clippers. He had only two triple-doubles the past five seasons.

Tyreke Evans(notes) scored 21 to lead the Kings. Francisco Garcia(notes), Carl Landry(notes) and Beno Udrih(notes) each added 17.

Hawks 94, Pistons 85=

ATLANTA (AP) - Al Horford(notes) had six straight points in an 18-4 run to finish the game and undefeated Atlanta beat winless Detroit.

Josh Smith(notes) had 22 points and 11 rebounds as the Hawks (5-0) remained the only unbeaten team in the Eastern Conference.

Ben Gordon(notes) had 22 points but it wasn’t enough for Detroit.

The Pistons are 0-5 for the first time since the 1980-81 season, when they started 0-7. They won their fifth game after starting 0-4 in 1999-2000.

Magic 128, Timberwolves 86=

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Dwight Howard(notes) had 18 points, 16 rebounds and eight blocked shots to help Orlando set a franchise record for most points in the first half in a victory over Minnesota.

Vince Carter(notes) had 20 points, Ryan Anderson(notes) scored 19 and the Magic shook up the starting lineup to score 78 points in the opening half for an easy win. Orlando started Anderson at power forward, moved Rashard Lewis(notes) to small forward and bumped Quentin Richardson(notes) out of the starting lineup.

Kevin Love(notes) had 22 points and Corey Brewer(notes) scored 12 for the Timberwolves, who lost on consecutive nights in Florida by 74 points. Minnesota fell by 32 a night earlier in Miami.

Mavericks 102, Nuggets 101=

DENVER (AP) - Dirk Nowitzki(notes) scored a season-high 35 points and Caron Butler(notes) hit a pivotal 3-pointer late in the game, helping Dallas hold off a Denver squad missing center Nene.

Butler hit a 3-pointer from the corner with 2 minutes remaining to give the Mavericks a 102-99 lead.

Carmelo Anthony(notes) answered with a dunk to trim it to one and after a Mavericks shot-clock violation, the Nuggets had one last chance.

But Anthony’s 20-footer with Shawn Marion(notes) in his face rimmed out and the Nuggets couldn’t track down the rebound in time.

Jason Terry(notes) scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half and Butler finished with 16 points as the Mavericks won in a building that has traditionally given them trouble.

Bobcats 85, Nets 83=

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - D.J. Augustin(notes) hit two go-ahead free throws with 30.9 seconds to play and Charlotte won for the first time this season, overcoming a 10-point, fourth-quarter deficit to beat New Jersey.

Boris Diaw(notes) scored 24 points, Gerald Wallace(notes) had 20 and Stephen Jackson(notes) scored eight of his 12 in the final 5:12 to lead Charlotte, which survived two final shots by Travis Outlaw(notes) in the closing seconds.

Devin Harris(notes) shook off a sprained left shoulder to lead the Nets with 19 points and eight assists. Brook Lopez(notes) added 17 points, and rookie Derrick Favors(notes) and Anthony Morrow(notes) had 11 points apiece.

76ers 101, Pacers 75=

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Elton Brand(notes) had 25 points and 12 rebounds, and Thaddeus Young(notes) scored 16 points to help Philadelphia to its first victory of the season.

Sixers coach Doug Collins wasn’t around to celebrate his first win since he was hired in May. Collins left the bench at halftime because of symptoms related to vertigo. He missed two preseason games because of symptoms related to a concussion he sustained on Memorial Day, then had neurological testing and treatment for what was diagnosed as vertigo.

Darren Collison(notes) led the Pacers with 11 points. Danny Granger(notes), averaging 27.0 points, was 2 for 14 and scored only seven. Granger made his only 3-pointer during a 13-2 run in the third that briefly rattled the Sixers.

Hornets 107, Rockets 99=

HOUSTON (AP) - Chris Paul(notes) scored 25 points, Marco Belinelli(notes) added 18 and New Orleans beat winless Houston to remain unbeaten.

The Hornets have won all four games this season to match the best start in franchise history. Houston dropped to 0-4.

Kevin Martin(notes) and Aaron Brooks(notes) scored 18 points apiece for Houston. Yao Ming(notes) added 15 in just under 21 1/2 minutes.

Jazz 125, Raptors 108=

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Deron Williams(notes) came within two rebounds of a triple-double, Al Jefferson(notes) and Paul Millsap(notes) dominated inside, and Utah rolled to a huge early lead en route to a victory over Toronto.

After giving up the first basket, Utah (2-2) scored the next 17 points, then went on another 8-0 tear en route to a 41-22 first-quarter lead.

Williams finished with 22 points, 14 assists and eight rebounds. Jefferson led the Jazz with 27 points and Millsap added 21 in Utah’s 11th straight victory over Toronto.

Toronto, which was coming off an embarrassing meltdown Monday night at Golden State, tried to make a game of it in the third quarter. The Raptors pulled within a point behind the scoring of Andrea Bargnani(notes) (26 points), Jarrett Jack(notes) (14) and DeMar DeRozan(notes) (16).

Warriors 115, Grizzlies 109=

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Monta Ellis(notes) scored 17 of his 39 points in the fourth quarter, Dorell Wright(notes) made a career-high seven 3-pointers and Golden State overcame a sloppy offensive night to beat Memphis.

Wright had 25 points and six rebounds, and David Lee(notes) added 15 points and 16 rebounds for the Warriors (3-1), who committed a season-high 20 turnovers.

Rudy Gay(notes) scored a season-high 35 points and had seven rebounds for Memphis, which lost its third straight at Oracle Arena. Mike Conley(notes) added 18 points and a career-high 13 assists.

Spurs 112, Suns 110=

PHOENIX (AP) - Richard Jefferson(notes) hit four fourth-quarter 3-pointers, including the go-ahead basket with 1:38 remaining, and San Antonio edged Phoenix.

Jefferson finished with 28 points, Tim Duncan(notes) had 25 and Manu Ginobili(notes) added 18 for the Spurs, who won in Phoenix for the first time since Jan. 29, 2009.

Jason Richardson(notes) scored 21 points, Hakim Warrick(notes) added 19 off the bench and Steve Nash(notes) also had 19 for the Suns, who have lost consecutive games for the first time since Jan. 25-26. Phoenix is 1-3 for the first time since 2006-07.

Clippers 107, Thunder 92=

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Eric Gordon(notes) scored 27 points, rookie Eric Bledsoe(notes) added 17 points and eight assists in his second career start, and Los Angeles held Kevin Durant(notes) to a horrific shooting night in its first victory of the season.

Blake Griffin(notes) had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Clippers, who rebounded from an 0-4 start with an impressive win over the Thunder and Durant, last season’s NBA scoring champion. Durant scored 16 points but missed 10 3-point attempts while going 6 for 24 against Los Angeles.

Jeff Green(notes) had 19 points and nine rebounds for the Thunder, who lost their second straight game in embarrassing fashion following a 21-point home loss to Utah.
